“Over the last couple days, it’s been the recognition that it’s still a golf tournament,” Whiteside said. “It’s a different level and the field is a little deeper, I just go through my process of how to make it around the golf course. I think if you try to blow it out of proportion that it is a U.S.

It’s evident that Whitehead knows how to perform. In March, at the 60th Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club, he set a school record by firing a final- round, 10-under 62 to win the tournament by two strokes. While Congressional‘s golf course is about 350 yards longer, its slope rating is only nine higher than Laredo Country Club (142 vs. 133).

Open, I’ll probably get overwhelmed. Hopefully, by keeping it fairly normal I do all right.”.

Some, like Bleacher Report’s own Adam Lazarus, find the brand of Golf that the U.S. Open brings out to be very dramatic and fun to watch. Personally, I can’t stand it because I don’t want to see the best Golfers in the world play like I do when I am on the course.

If these players are struggling to break even, something is wrong.

Montgomery County shuts down kids' lemonade stand » We Love DCTom Bridge: Tom Bridge moved to the DC area in 2000 and hasn’t looked back. Well, once. But it was his job that was broken, and not DC.

Montgomery County decided today to shutdown a lemonade stand near the Congressional Golf Course run by the children of two local families because they did not pay $300 for a vendor permit. While the $500 fine has been waived by the County, and the kids can setup somewhere ‘more private’ this still seems to be the kind of thing that just brings me down.

Before founding We Love DC with several friends, Tom was the City Captain for Metroblogging DC for four years. He is a partner at Technolutionary LLC and works in computers for a living. He and his wife Tiffany live in Brookland. Read Why Tom Loves DC.

Rory McIlroy Leads U.S. Open | inthesportsloop.comCurrently Y.E. Yang sits alone in second at (-3) for the tournament. Yang however has only played 4 holes of his second round at this moment, and could very well still make a run.

22 year old Rory McIlroy came out yesterday and absolutely dominated the Congressional Golf Course that is the site of the 2011 U.S. Open. In the opening round Rory shot a (-6) 65 that left him 3 strokes ahead of the rest of the field going into Friday. Today McIlroy continued to plow through sitting at (-13) going into the 18th hole. He ended up double bogeying 18 to finish with a second round 66 and (-11) for the tournament, a 36 hole record.

Regardless, the 22 year old from Northern Ireland is living up to the expectations of many who see him the next big thing in golf. However, McIlroy has been here before. He led at the Master’s heading into the final round, but a Sunday meltdown left him out of the win. Maybe this weekend will be different. Maybe not. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Ryder Cup 2010

Ryder Cup 2010: Graeme McDowell the perfect hero for Europe ...Europe went into yesterday’s singles holding a three-point lead and at one stage during the afternoon were ahead in eight of the 12 matches. An easy victory beckoned, or at least it did until the visitors won a series of matches, some decisively (Tiger Woods over Francesco Molinari 4&3, Dustin Johnson over Martin Kaymer 6&4) and one by a narrow margin (Steve Stricker beat Lee Westwood on the 17th green). Even Phil Mickelson, one of the weakest players on Pavin’s team over the previous three days, managed a victory, beating Peter Hanson 4&2, though he took much of the blame for defeat upon himself.

Ryder Cup 2010: live - Telegraph16.39 That’s going to be all from us. The Ryder Cup’s going to be in Illinois in two years’ time, at the Medinah Country Club. But until then, the Cup itself is going to stay right here.
8.00: Good morning. Europe are three points ahead and need just five more to regain the Ryder Cup and cap a remarkable comeback after one of the most frustrating, yet captivating weekends of golf for many a year. Except it’s not the weekend, it’s Monday, and as such we’re entering uncharted territory. Gallons of mean Welsh rain tried to derail this tournament, but some sensible rescheduling and some world-class drainage (drainage, drainage, drainage) have ensured that we now have a full day of singles to enjoy. And enjoy we will. Are you at home. Or are you at work trying to creep under the radar of the bosses. Either way, get in touch.

On this side of the Atlantic, in this continent. Unless Lisa Pavin makes a grab for it at the closing ceremony and runs off screaming: “Emilio, start the car.” All those people who said the competition had lost its lustre. Shame on them. These have been four of the finest days of the sporting decade so far. Agony, ecstasy, triumph, disaster, farce. We’ve had it all. But this has been a sporting epic with a happy, thrilling ending. Thanks for all your e-mails and tweets, and apologies that we weren’t able to publish them all. The three of us might need to have a little lie down after all this. Separately, obviously. Obviously.

2010 Ryder Cup - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaAs a result of the long suspension of play on the first day due to heavy rain, the format for the rest of the competition was changed to try and bring a conclusion to the matches on Sunday. However, further heavy rain caused a delayed start on Sunday, so that the last of the revised sessions would be played on Monday. Because of the changes, there were a number of Ryder Cup firsts.
The top players for the USA (8) and Europe (9) as determined by their points performance (described above) received automatic selection. The remaining players on each team were selected at the discretion of the team captains. Qualification for Team Europe ended on 29 August, at which time, the captain’s picks were named. Team USA was finalised on 7 September.Tiger Woods was a captain’s pick for the first time ever.
